This Week at the Carnegie: March 5-11


This week we have so many great events and programs at the Carnegie. Please call 770-683-1347 to register for these programs in advance. Remember all programs at the Carnegie Library are open to the public and free of charge.

Monday

Exercise is Medicine 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 a.m. -- EIM is a circuit cardio alternating safe and easy to follow low-impact aerobics with strength conditioning. Elastic tubing with handles is used for resistance training and core strengthening. The Exercise is Medicine (EIM) program includes “move and learn” activity designed to offer those of all ages with chronic diseases the cardio-strength-flexibility and balance training needed to safely improve chronic health condition symptoms.

Crochet 2:00 p.m. to 4 p.m. -- This class is designed for beginners as well as more advanced. If you want to learn the basics and make a lap robe then bring one crochet hook - size “h” - and one 7 ounce skein of “Red Heart” yarn. For all levels of skill. Instructor, Judy Davenport, teaches the basics and will guide through any trouble spots. For experienced, please bring your current crochet project.

Tuesday

The Millennial Ethos 6:00-7:00 p.m. The Carnegie Library presents the fifth program in the health happiness and harmony series. Join Dr. Ric Chambers in a discussion of the cultural changes of the last 20 years, including the birth of the Millennial. A generation born during one of the fastest, technologically-advancing periods in U.S. history, what is really new in terms of disposition, values, character, attitudes and spirit? Wednesday

Gentle Yoga 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm— This class is designed for adults & seniors of all levels of physical ability. Instructor, Yvette Monet, guides in stretching & strengthening muscles. Helps you to gain flexibility & balance and relieve stress.

CAREing Paws 3:30-4:30 p.m. The Newnan Carnegie Library hosts CAREing Paws. CAREing Paws, Inc. is a local group of registered therapy teams in Georgia that conduct visits in places such as nursing homes, hospitals, libraries and schools. They are a network of compassionate individuals who are willing to share their special animals in order to bring joy and happiness to others. Lola, a registered therapy dog, and her handler, Ms. Pam provide a free fifteen minute, private reading exercise for elementary and middle school aged students. * Registration required.* Please call 770-683-1347 to register.

Thursday

Preschool Story Time 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.-- A fun time of singing, dancing, reading, crafting, and learning! There’s always a little silliness too. Writing Workshop for Adults 2:00-3:30 p.m.-- Join award winning writer and humorist Alex McRae for a class on how to write your story! Whether you want to write your memoir or explore your life through writing about your experiences, he will be sharing his home grown and well earned writing experience in a small, intimate environment. This class is intended for adults age 18 and up.
