This Week at the Carnegie: July 16-20


This week we have so many great events and programs at the Carnegie. Please call 770-683-1347 to register for these programs in advance. Remember all programs at the Carnegie Library are open to the public and free of charge.

Monday

Exercise is Medicine 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 a.m. -- EIM is a circuit cardio alternating safe and easy to follow low-impact aerobics with strength conditioning. Elastic tubing with handles is used for resistance training and core strengthening. The Exercise is Medicine (EIM) program includes “move and learn” activity designed to offer those of all ages with chronic diseases the cardio-strength-flexibility and balance training needed to safely improve chronic health condition symptoms.

Crochet 2:00 p.m. to 4 p.m. -- This class is designed for beginners as well as more advanced. If you want to learn the basics and make a lap robe then bring one crochet hook - size “h” - and one 7 ounce skein of “Red Heart” yarn. For all levels of skill. Instructor, Judy Davenport, teaches the basics and will guide through any trouble spots. For experienced, please bring your current crochet project.

Tuesday

Multicultural Dance Workshop Ages 4-7 10:00 a.m.to 11:00 a.m. ages 7-12 2:00 p.m.3:00 p.m.-- Learn the history and culture of Japan and Italy along with a traditional dance. This Eventbrite is for the 10:00 AM program for 4-7-year-olds. space is very limited. Reservations are highly recommended and can be made one week prior to the event. Murder in Coweta County 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.-- 35 Years Since the Airing of the Movie, Producer Dick Atkins and Newnan Times Herald News Editor Winston Skinner provide commentary followed by a screening of the movie in its entirety. There will be time for questions after the screening.

Wednesday

Lego Day Robotics 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Atlanta Brick Co will be onsite facilitating structured activities. Children are invited to play, create, and explore the Lego world! Reservations are required.

Gentle Yoga 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.--This class is designed for adults & seniors of all levels of physical ability. Instructor, Yvette Monet, guides in stretching & strengthening muscles. Helps you to gain flexibility & balance and relieve stress.

Thursday

Drumming Up the Stories 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. -- This high-energy, rhythm-based storytelling experience is guaranteed to spark the imagination and kindle a love of reading. Learn how the drum was first used to communicate, how music can enhance storytelling and how instruments can be created from ordinary objects. Lots of audience participation ensures a memorable assembly as students are guided through an array of world folktales with drumming. Reservations are required.

Armchair Travelers-Iceland 2:30-3:30 p.m. Please join the Carnegie Library to hear Mr. Rob Isham speak about Iceland and how a cold island goes from a fishing country to a Travelers Paradise in one generation. And you will not want to miss an authentic Icelandic dessert that he will make: Hjónabandsæla, or Wedded Bliss. Registration is requested for this program.

American Military History with Dr. Todd 2:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. – Dr. Walter Todd has a Ph.D. in History but focuses mainly in American Military History. Dr. Todd has been a professor at The University of West Georgia as well as West Georgia Technical College where he is a faculty member in the history department. Dr. Todd enjoys sharing his love for America’s past, present, and future through his teachings. Dr. Todd will be speaking on The Banana Wars.
