This Week at the Carnegie: October 22-26


This week we have so many great events and programs at the Carnegie. Please call 770-683-1347 to register for these programs in advance. Remember all programs at the Carnegie Library are open to the public and free of charge.

Monday

Literary Circle 9:30-11:00 a.m. The Carnegie Library’s book club meets monthly to discuss the book of the month. This month’s selection is The Notorious RBG by Irin Carmon and Shana Knizhnik

Exercise is Medicine 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 a.m. -- EIM is a circuit cardio alternating safe and easy to follow low-impact aerobics with strength conditioning. Elastic tubing with handles is used for resistance training and core strengthening. The Exercise is Medicine (EIM) program includes “move and learn” activity designed to offer those of all ages with chronic diseases the cardio-strength-flexibility and balance training needed to safely improve chronic health condition symptoms.

Crochet 2:00 p.m. to 4 p.m. -- This class is designed for beginners as well as more advanced. If you want to learn the basics and make a lap robe then bring one crochet hook - size “h” - and one 7 ounce skein of “Red Heart” yarn. For all levels of skill. Instructor, Judy Davenport, teaches the basics and will guide through any trouble spots. For experienced, please bring your current crochet project.

Tuesday

As the Page Turns 3:30-4:30 p.m.-- The Carnegie Library is proud to present As the Page Turns our new afternoon book club. The book club will meet the fourth Tuesday of the month and read books from a variety of genres. This months book is The Day the World Came to Town by Jim DeFede.

Wednesday

Gentle Yoga 1:30 p.m.-2:30 p.m.—This class is designed for adults & seniors of all levels of physical ability. Instructor, Yvette Monet, guides in stretching & strengthening muscles. Helps you to gain flexibility & balance and relieve stress.

Book Club with Lola 3:30-4:30 p.m. Lola, a registered therapy dog, and her handler, Ms. Pam provide a free fifteen minute, private reading exercise for elementary and middle aged students. Registration required, please call 770-683-1347.

Thursday

Preschool Story Time 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.-- A fun time of singing, dancing, reading, crafting, and learning! There’s always a little silliness too. Spooktacular Designs 2:30-4:00 p.m. Join The Carnegie Library for a fun filled afternoon of crafting DIY Halloween decorations. We will be making fun and spooky decorations to complement any Halloween decorating. Refreshments will be served. Space is limited to 20. Mindfulness Workshop: Surrendering Through Color 2:30-4:00 p.m. -- his workshop will focus on the importance of letting go of worries and fears through the use of color. Participants will learn the meaning of colors and ways to tap into their inner child to embrace the practice of surrendering. Bring your worries and an open mind. Join us to learn an additional tool for your self-care toolkit. This workshop will be led by Rev. Dr. Natasha Ward, a holistic educator who has been practicing meditation and mindfulness for over 20 years. Registration is required.
