This Week at the Carnegie: March 25-29


This week we have so many great events and programs at the Carnegie. Please call 770-683-1347 to register for these programs in advance. Remember all programs at the Carnegie Library are open to the public and free of charge.

Monday

Literary Circle 9:30 a.m.-11:00 a.m.— The Carnegie Library’s book club meets monthly to discuss the book of the month. This month’s selection is Manhattan Beach by Jennifer Egan.

Exercise is Medicine 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 a.m. -- EIM is a circuit cardio alternating safe and easy to follow low-impact aerobics with strength conditioning. Elastic tubing with handles is used for resistance training and core strengthening. The Exercise is Medicine (EIM) program includes “move and learn” activity designed to offer those of all ages with chronic diseases the cardio-strength-flexibility and balance training needed to safely improve chronic health condition symptoms.

Crochet 2:00 p.m. to 4 p.m. -- This class is designed for beginners as well as more advanced. If you want to learn the basics and make a lap robe then bring one crochet hook - size “h” - and one 7 ounce skein of “Red Heart” yarn. For all levels of skill. Instructor, Judy Davenport, teaches the basics and will guide through any trouble spots. For experienced, please bring your current crochet project.

Adoptive Parents Group 7:00-8:00 p.m. The Adoptive Parents Group is an open group, and will meet on the fourth Monday of each month from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Carnegie Library in Newnan. The group is led by Dr. Mark Andrews with Adoptive Family Resources of Newnan. Dr. Andrews has been an adoptive parent for twenty-five years, and has nearly thirty years’ experience as a family therapist, working with many domestically and internationally-adopted children and their families. Wednesday

Gentle Yoga 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm— This class is designed for adults & seniors of all levels of physical ability. Instructor, Yvette Monet, guides in stretching & strengthening muscles. Helps you to gain flexibility & balance and relieve stress.

Book Club with Lola 3:30-4:30 p.m. Lola, a registered therapy dog, and her handler, Ms. Pam provide a free fifteen minute, private reading exercise for elementary and middle aged students. Registration required, please call 770-683-1347.

Thursday

AARP Driver Safety Program 9:30a.m.-4:00 p.m. Contact Jesse Johnson at 678-485-0655 to register. Cost is $15 for AARP members, $20 for non-members. All ages welcome, minors must be accompanied by an adult.

Friday

Spring Art Walk 5:00-9:00 p.m. Join the Carnegie Library for Spring Art Walk Open House! We will have refreshments, art activities for adults and children and time to enjoy the library. Visit the Carnegie as you stroll the streets of Newnan enjoying the Spring Art Walk.

Puppet Palooza: An Art Extravaganza 6:00-8:00 p.m. Elementary age artists will create a hand puppet using paper sculpture techniques. For ages 5 and up. Teaching Artist: Lavinia Roberts is an award-winning playwright, puppet designer, and educator. She is the current Newnan Art Rez Artist-in-residence. She is published with Applause Books, Big Dog Plays, Brooklyn Publishers, Heuer Publishing, Plays: The Drama Magazine for Young People, Pioneer Drama, Smith and Kraus, and others. She has productions in over 50 states and internationally.
