This Week at the Carnegie: April 8-12


This week we have so many great events and programs at the Carnegie. Please call 770-683-1347 to register for these programs in advance. Remember all programs at the Carnegie Library are open to the public and free of charge.

National Library Week—This week we will be celebrating National Library Week. Stop by during the week for trivia (with prizes!)

Monday

Exercise is Medicine 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 a.m. -- EIM is a circuit cardio alternating safe and easy to follow low-impact aerobics with strength conditioning. Elastic tubing with handles is used for resistance training and core strengthening. The Exercise is Medicine (EIM) program includes “move and learn” activity designed to offer those of all ages with chronic diseases the cardio-strength-flexibility and balance training needed to safely improve chronic health condition symptoms.

Crochet 2:00 p.m. to 4 p.m. -- This class is designed for beginners as well as more advanced. If you want to learn the basics and make a lap robe then bring one crochet hook - size “h” - and one 7 ounce skein of “Red Heart” yarn. For all levels of skill. Instructor, Judy Davenport, teaches the basics and will guide through any trouble spots. For experienced, please bring your current crochet project.

Tuesday

Seed Library Kick Off & Seed Swap 2:30-3:30 p.m. The Carnegie Library is excited to debut our new seed library! Please join us for this kick off celebration and seed swap. Please bring in seeds and soil to share and learn all about our new seed library. Many thanks to Keep Newnan Beautiful for their donation to start our seed library. Psychological First Aid 6:00-7:00 p.m. Please join the Carnegie Library for the next Health Happiness Harmony program. Join community psychologist, Dr. Louis Boynton for a discussion of Psychological First Aid. Learn tips and tricks for mentally navigating, not only true natural disasters and man-made catastrophes, but also the low-grade anxiety that is the 24 hour news feed. Dr. Boynton received his Masters and Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of West Georgia. He is trained in many advanced psychotherapies including Crises Management and FEMA Disaster Crises Counseling. Wednesday

Gentle Yoga 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm— This class is designed for adults & seniors of all levels of physical ability. Instructor, Yvette Monet, guides in stretching & strengthening muscles. Helps you to gain flexibility & balance and relieve stress.

Book Club with Lola 3:30-4:30 p.m. Lola, a registered therapy dog, and her handler, Ms. Pam provide a free fifteen minute, private reading exercise for elementary and middle aged students. Registration required, please call 770-683-1347.

Thursday

Preschool Story Time 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.-- A fun time of singing, dancing, reading, crafting, and learning! There’s always a little silliness too. This is a program that requires pre-registration. Please visit https://www.newnancarnegie.com/story-time for more program information and guidelines.

Photography 101 2:30-4:00 p.m. Join the Carnegie for a practical, hands on photography class covering the basics of photography. We will cover the exposure triangle, the importance of light and do some hands on photographing. This class will be taught by photographer, Susan Crutchfield. Limited to 20 participants!
