This Week at the Carnegie: Sept. 16-20


We have an exciting week ahead at the Newnan Carnegie. We have a program for everyone coming up: fitness classes, craft workshops, preschool story time, and a history lecture. Don't forget to stop by during Downtown Newnan's Fall Art Walk. We will have extended hours until 9 p.m., crafts and games for kids, and refreshments. Our featured artist, TL Brooks will have her work displayed outside.This the perfect opportunity for those whom are unable to visit during our normal business hours to see all that we offer.

Monday

Exercise is Medicine: 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

EIM is a circuit cardio alternating safe and easy to follow low-impact aerobics with strength conditioning. Elastic tubing with handles is used for resistance training and core strengthening. The Exercise is Medicine (EIM) program includes “move and learn” activity designed to offer those of all ages with chronic diseases the cardio-strength-flexibility and balance training needed to safely improve chronic health condition symptoms. Certified instructors from Piedmont Newnan Wellness Center provide forty-five minutes of gentle therapeutic exercises. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes. All equipment provided.

Crochet at the Carnegie: 2:00 p.m. to 4 p.m.

This class is designed for beginners as well as more advanced. If you want to learn the basics and make a lap robe. Bring one crochet hook - size “h” - and one 7 ounce skein of “Red Heart” yarn. This class is for all levels of skill. Instructor, Judy Davenport, teaches the basics and will guide through any trouble spots. For experienced knitters, please bring your current crochet project

Tuesday

Copper Etching Workshop: 2:00 to 4 p.m.

Give your creative side a fun day! Join local artist Sandy Essex as she leads a copper etching workshop. Enjoy designing a copper pendant, pair of earrings, bookmark, luggage tag, embossing die, or a key ring initial. Each participant will be able to create two items. All materials are provided. Etching is a process of using acid to eat a design into metal. While Sandy will be handling the acid, please wear "older," comfortable clothing. Even if you feel that you cannot draw a straight line, you may be in luck! Some very good designs happen with just doodling. Sandy will also have handouts of simple designs, monograms, flowers, etc. which you may copy or use as inspiration. Come prepared to have fun and to try something new! You will be surprised at what you, yourself, can create. While the workshop is free, registration is required for this program. This program is currently full. Wednesday

Gentle Yoga 1:30 p.m.— 2:30 p.m.

Please join the Carnegie for Gentle Yoga with Yvette! Instructor, Yvette Monet will guide adults & seniors at all levels of physical ability in stretch & strengthen muscles exercises. Gain flexibility & balance and relieve stress. Please wear comfortable clothes and shoes. All equipment provided or bring your own mat.

Thursday

Preschool Story Time with Ms. Teri: 10:00-11:30 a.m.

Storytime with Ms.Teri is every Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until 11:15. The fall session has started but will allow registrations on a rolling basis until full. Advance registration is required and is for the entire session. A registration packet is available at the Carnegie. Space is limited. Crafting Paper Flowers: 2:30 - 4:00 p.m.

Participants will use book pages to create roses and other floral elements to make a paper flower bouquet. Great for DIY and craft lovers! All materials provided. American Military History - The Doolittle Raid on Japan: 2 - 4 p.m.

Dr. Walter Todd has a Ph.D. in History but focuses mainly on American Military History. Dr. Todd has been a professor at the University of West Georgia as well as retired from West Georgia Technical College . Dr. Todd enjoys sharing his love for America’s past, present, and future through his teachings. This month he will be covering the Doolittle Raid on Japan which occurred on August 18, 1942. Fall Art Walk at the Carnegie with Featured Artist TL Brooks: 5 - 9 p.m.

The Newnan Carnegie is pleased to be a part of Main Street Newnan's Art Walk! We will be showcasing the work of local, self-taught multimedia artist, TL Brooks as well as hosting some fun and creative family activities. For more information on the Art Walk and other Main Street events, please visit https://www.mainstreetnewnan.com/ Outside, TL Brooks ART will be sharing some of her “Praise Bloom Miracles,” series and her hand sculpted beads featured in her wearable art. Carnegie staff will lead a kids marble painting craft and games. Don't forget to come inside to join us for refreshments and to browse our collection of books, DVDs, and audio books.
