This Week at the Carnegie: Nov. 11-15


It’s already the middle of November! With the chill in the air, we know winter is coming soon. At the Carnegie, we aren’t slowing down and have a week full of fun programs for you to enjoy. Don’t miss out on our extended hours this week as we participate in Main Street Newnan’s Holiday Sip & See. We will be open on Friday, November 15th. until 9:00 p.m. for you to peruse our collections, shop the city store, and to enjoy snacks and giveaways.

Program dates, times, and descriptions are below. Please visit newnancarnegie.eventbrite.com/ to register for programs in advance. All programs at the Carnegie are open to the public and free of charge.

Monday

Happy Veteran's Day! To all who have served, we thank you for your service.

The Carnegie will be open normal business hours, 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Exercise is Medicine: 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

EIM is a circuit cardio alternating safe and easy to follow low-impact aerobics with strength conditioning. Elastic tubing with handles is used for resistance training and core strengthening. The Exercise is Medicine (EIM) program includes “move and learn” activity designed to offer those of all ages with chronic diseases the cardio-strength-flexibility and balance training needed to safely improve chronic health condition symptoms. Certified instructors from Piedmont Newnan Wellness Center provide forty-five minutes of gentle therapeutic exercises. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes. All equipment provided.

Crochet at the Carnegie: 2:00 p.m. to 4 p.m.

This class is designed for beginners as well as more advanced. If you want to learn the basics and make a lap robe. Bring one crochet hook - size “h” - and one 7 ounce skein of “Red Heart” yarn. This class is for all levels of skill. Instructor, Judy Davenport, teaches the basics and will guide through any trouble spots. For experienced knitters, please bring your current crochet project.

Tuesday

AARP Driver Safety Program: 9:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

*There is minimal fee for this program.* Contact Jesse Johnson at 678-485-0655 to register and for more information. Cost is $15 for AARP members, $20 for non-members. All ages welcome, minors must be accompanied by an adult. Pre-registration is required.

Wednesday

Gentle Yoga: 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Please join the Carnegie for Gentle Yoga with Yvette! Instructor, Yvette Monet will guide adults & seniors at all levels of physical ability in stretch & strengthen muscles exercises. Gain flexibility & balance and relieve stress. Please wear comfortable clothes and shoes. All equipment provided or bring your own mat.

Book Club with Lola 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Lola, a registered therapy dog, and her handler, Ms. Pam provide a free fifteen minute, private reading exercise for elementary and middle school aged students. Registration is required and can be done by calling 770-683-1347.

Thursday

Sewing with Carole: 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Local small business owner, Carole Cannon will be teaching the basics of sewing. This month participants will make an apron. You are welcome to bring your own sewing machine, but it is not necessary. Friday

Holiday Sip & Read: 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

The Newnan Carnegie is pleased to be a part of Main Street Newnan's Holiday Sip & See. The Carnegie will be celebrating with a Holiday Sip & Read, complete with games, refreshments and book giveaways! It's also a great time to get your official City Store merchandise - perfect for gift giving! With shirts, sweatshirts, mugs, cups, frisbees, and more, you are sure to find something for everyone on your list!
