This Week at the Carnegie: December 2-6


We hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving! We are ready to usher in the winter season and all of the fun events that come with it. This week Barnes & Noble in Newnan is hosting a Book Fair fundraiser for the Newnan Carnegie Library Foundation. Any purchase made from December 5-8th when using our barcode or entering the code during checkout online will contribute a portion of the sales to the NCLF. In celebration of the fundraiser, Ms. Teri will be hosting a special story time at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 6th. at Barnes & Noble. You can find details for this below.

Monday

Exercise is Medicine: 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

EIM is a circuit cardio alternating safe and easy to follow low-impact aerobics with strength conditioning. Elastic tubing with handles is used for resistance training and core strengthening. The Exercise is Medicine (EIM) program includes “move and learn” activity designed to offer those of all ages with chronic diseases the cardio-strength-flexibility and balance training needed to safely improve chronic health condition symptoms. Certified instructors from Piedmont Newnan Wellness Center provide forty-five minutes of gentle therapeutic exercises. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes. All equipment provided.

Crochet at the Carnegie: 1:30 p.m. to 4: 00 p.m.

This class is designed for beginners as well as more advanced. If you want to learn the basics and make a lap robe. Bring one crochet hook - size “h” - and one 7 ounce skein of “Red Heart” yarn. This class is for all levels of skill. Instructor, Judy Davenport, teaches the basics and will guide through any trouble spots. For experienced knitters, please bring your current crochet project

Tuesday

The Other Night School – The Life & Death of English Grammar: 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

If grammar has a history, then grammar must change. Yet if grammar changes, is there such a thing as correct grammar? Correctness often depends on local condition, yet some grammatical errors can be so severe that even their mother would not claim them. Come find out just how well/good you understand the differences.

Join us for this lively talk by University of West Georgia Interim University President, Dr. Michael Crafton. Please join the Carnegie for Gentle Yoga with Yvette! Instructor, Yvette Monet will guide adults & seniors at all levels of physical ability in stretch & strengthen muscles exercises. Gain flexibility & balance and relieve stress. Please wear comfortable clothes and shoes. All equipment provided or bring your own mat.

Carnegie Cinema: Christmas Edition

Join the Carnegie Library for a showing of a holiday, cult-classic movie. Enjoy a relaxing and hilarious afternoon including drinks, and of course, popcorn! The movie is PG. Children’s Story Time at Barnes & Noble: 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

As part of the Book Fair at Barnes & Noble - Newnan Crossing supporting the Newnan Carnegie Library Foundation, Ms. Teri will be hosting a special story time on December 6th. at 10 a.m. at Barnes and Noble. This story time is for ages 2-5. A holiday themed craft will follow as supplies last.

Please note this story time is on location at Barnes & Noble, not the Carnegie.

Copper Etching – Cuff Bracelets: 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Local artist, Sandy Essex will guide participants in creating a copper etched cuff bracelet. Etching is a process of using acid to eat a design into metal. While Sandy will be handling the acid, please wear "older," comfortable clothing. Don't worry if you feel like you can't draw - some of the best designs come from doodling! Sandy will have simple designs on hand to trace and help with inspiration. While the program is free registration is limited and required for this program. All supplies are included.
