This Week at the Carnegie: Feb. 24-29

It’s the week we have been waiting for – the week of Leap Day and our first Saturday opening. We hope you will join us for refreshments, tours, to peruse our book collection, and crafts upstairs! The Carnegie will be open most Saturdays starting February 29th. from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., so please spread the word!

Monday

Carnegie Literary Circle: 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

The Carnegie Library hosts Carnegie Literary Circle, our morning book club. This month's book is "Plain Speaking" by Merle Miller. Reservations are requested. All programs at the Carnegie are open to the public and free of charge. To register, please click here.



Exercise is Medicine: 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

EIM is a circuit cardio alternating safe and easy to follow low-impact aerobics with strength conditioning. Elastic tubing with handles is used for resistance training and core strengthening. The Exercise is Medicine (EIM) program includes “move and learn” activity designed to offer those of all ages with chronic diseases the cardio-strength-flexibility and balance training needed to safely improve chronic health condition symptoms. Certified instructors from Piedmont Newnan Wellness Center provide forty-five minutes of gentle therapeutic exercises. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes. All equipment provided. No need to RSVP, come as able! Attendees are admitted on a first come, first serve basis. A waiver will need to be signed at your first class.



Crochet: 1:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Join the Carnegie Library on Mondays for Crochet at the Carnegie! If you are a beginner please bring one crochet hook - size “h” - and one 7-ounce skein of “Red Heart” yarn. Instructor, Judy Davenport, teaches the basics and will guide through any trouble spots. For experienced crocheters, bring your current project. Drop in as able, no need to RSVP!



Tuesday

As the Page Turns: 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The Carnegie Library presents As the Page Turns, our afternoon book club. This month we will be reading "Orphan Train" by Christina Baker Cline. Reservations are requested. All programs at the Carnegie are open to the public and free of charge. To register, please click here.

Gentle Yoga: 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Please join the Carnegie for Gentle Yoga with Yvette! Instructor, Yvette Monet will guide adults & seniors at all levels of physical ability in stretch & strengthen muscles exercises. Gain flexibility & balance and relieve stress. Please wear comfortable clothes and shoes. All equipment provided or bring your own mat.



Book Club with Lola: 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Lola, a registered therapy dog, and her handler, Ms. Pam provide a free fifteen-minute, private reading exercise for elementary and middle school aged students. Don't miss out on this wonderful opportunity to improve your child's reading confidence and skills! Registration is required. Please call 770-683-1347 to register.



Thursday

Family & Friends CPR: 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Join us for hands on, non-certification CPR instruction from Newnan CPR! Learn & practice skills that could save a loved one’s life. Over 1,100 people per day suffer cardiac arrest. Quick CPR by bystanders and quick use of an AED is what is likely to save their life. American Heart Association Family & Friends CPR teaches life‐saving skills of Adult Hands‐Only CPR, child/infant CPR (with breaths), using an AED, relief from choking, and more.


This program is open to adults/seniors ages 12 & up. While this program is free, registration is required. To register, please click here.

This non-certification training is provided as a public service by Newnan CPR.

Saturday

Leap into Saturdays: 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Have you heard the news? We are opening on Saturdays! Join us for our first Saturday opening. Take a tour of our historic building, grab a snack, and peruse our collection of books and DVDs. Crafts for all ages will be held upstairs throughout the morning. Registration is required for all craft programs and requested for the rest of the event. To register, please click here.

Craft Schedule

9:00-10:30 a.m.--Children's Craft (ages 2-12)

Drop in between 9:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. to meet our children's programmer, learn about upcoming events, and create fun, frog themed crafts! Children ages 2-7 will enjoy creating a cute, paper frog. While older children, will learn to fold an origami frog and compete in frog races.

10:00-11:30 a.m.--Adult Craft

Leap into spring with an adorable bunny craft! Drop-in anytime between 10:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. to meet our Adult Programmer, learn about our variety of class and program offerings, and create a sock bunny.

11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.--Teen Craft (ages 12-17)

Meet our YA programmer and learn about our new teen area! Teens will enjoy learning a more complex, origami frog design to use to compete against one another in races.
