This Week at the Carnegie: April 15-19

This week we have so many great events and programs at the Carnegie. Please call 770-683-1347 to register for these programs in advance. Remember all programs at the Carnegie Library are open to the public and free of charge.

 

Monday

 

Exercise is Medicine 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 a.m. EIM is a circuit cardio alternating safe and easy to follow low-impact aerobics with strength conditioning. Elastic tubing with handles is used for resistance training and core strengthening. The Exercise is Medicine (EIM) program includes “move and learn” activity designed to offer those of all ages with chronic diseases the cardio-strength-flexibility and balance training needed to safely improve chronic health condition symptoms.

 

 

 

Crochet 2:00 p.m. to 4 p.m. This class is designed for beginners as well as more advanced. If you want to learn the basics and make a lap robe then bring one crochet hook - size “h” - and one 7 ounce skein of “Red Heart” yarn. For all levels of skill. Instructor, Judy Davenport, teaches the basics and will guide through any trouble spots.
For experienced, please bring your current crochet project.

 

 

 

Tuesday

 

AARP Driver Safety Program 9:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Contact Jesse Johnson at 678-485-0655 to register. Cost is $15 for AARP members, $20 for non-members. All ages welcome, minors must be accompanied by an adult.

 

Recycling and Compost 6:00-7:00 p.m. Join Keep Newnan Beautiful director, Page Beckwith, as she teaches us all about recycling and composting. Learn everything about recycling in Newnan and Coweta County. Are you a wish cycler? Learn how to recycle correctly. Why is composting important? How does it work? Help save the environment by adding composting to your recycling activities. Learn how to get started, easy ways to compost and learn how to find the right container. Receive a free reusable shopping bag for attending. One lucky winner will receive a free composting container. (Must be present at the class to win). Wednesday

Gentle Yoga 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm— This class is designed for adults & seniors of all levels of physical ability. Instructor, Yvette Monet, guides in stretching & strengthening muscles. Helps you to gain flexibility & balance and relieve stress.

 

 

 

Gardening in the Shade 3:00-4:00 p.m. The Carnegie Library hosts the Coweta County Master Gardeners for Gardening in the Shade. You can have a lovely garden even in a fully shaded yard. Learn the special considerations for shade gardens and recommended plantings to produce a beautiful shade landscape. Thursday

 

Preschool Story Time 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.-- A fun time of  singing, dancing, reading, crafting, and learning! There’s always a little silliness too. An Evening of Poetry 6:00-7:00 p.m. Please join the Carnegie Library for an evening of poetry in celebration of National Poetry Month. We will have poetry readings from local poets including Melissa Dickson Jackson and JohnPatrick VanSant. This program is for patrons 16+. Registration is required for this program. American Military History 2:00-4:00 p.m. Please join The Carnegie Library for American Military History with Dr. Todd. Dr. Walter Todd has a Ph.D. in History but 
focuses mainly on American Military History. Dr. Todd has been a professor at The University of West Georgia as well as West Georgia Technical College where he is a faculty member in the history department. Dr. Todd enjoys sharing his love for America’s past, present, and future through his teachings. Dr. Todd will be speaking on the North Vietnamese Air defense from 1965-1972 Against the United States.
