This Week at the Carnegie: June 24-28

This week we have so many great events and programs at the Carnegie. Please call 770-683-1347 to register for these programs in advance. Remember all programs at the Carnegie Library are open to the public and free of charge.

 

Monday

 

Exercise is Medicine 11:30 a.m.-12:15 p.m. EIM is a circuit cardio alternating safe and easy to follow low-impact aerobics with strength conditioning. Elastic tubing with handles is used for resistance training and core strengthening. The Exercise is Medicine (EIM) program includes “move and learn” activity designed to offer those of all ages with chronic diseases the cardio-strength-flexibility and balance training needed to safely improve chronic health condition symptoms.

 

Crochet 2:00-4:00 p.m. This class is designed for beginners as well as more advanced. If you want to learn the basics and make a lap robe then bring one crochet hook - size “h” - and one 7 ounce skein of “Red Heart” yarn. For all levels of skill. Instructor, Judy Davenport, teaches the basics and will guide through any trouble spots.
For experienced, please bring your current crochet project.

 

 

Tuesday

 

Walking Club 8:00-9:00 a.m. The Carnegie Walking Club will meet at various parks and walking trails around Newnan. Please check this Facebook event discussion for this weeks location. Please wear comfortable clothes and shoes and bring water! Registration is requested, please call 770-683-1347.

 

Craft Day 10:00-11:00 a.m. Join the Newnan Carnegie for Family Craft Day. We will be using Sharpies, rubbing alcohol, and pieces of plastic to make book marks with unusual designs. This event is full.

 

As the Page Turns 3:30-4:30 p.m. The Carnegie Library is proud to present As the Page Turns, our afternoon book club. Adult Writing Workshop 6:00-8:00 p.m. Please join the Carnegie Library for a writing workshop for adults.  Sometimes the most beautiful moments in life come from seeing the same old things in a brand new way.  Writers call this “defamiliarization.”  In this workshop, you’ll learn how to practice seeing the world like a writer.  This class will be taught by Rose Howse, the Newnan ArtRez Artist-in-residence.  This event is full; however, you can call 770-683-1347 to be put on a waiting list.

 

Wednesday

Gentle Yoga 1:30-2:30 p.m. This class is designed for adults & seniors of all levels of physical ability. Instructor, Yvette Monet, guides in stretching & strengthening muscles. Gentle yoga helps you to gain flexibility & balance and relieve stress.

 

Book Club with Lola 3:30-4:30 p.m. The Newnan Carnegie Library hosts Book Club with Lola! Lola, a registered therapy dog, and her handler, Ms. Pam provide a free fifteen minute, private reading exercise for elementary and middle school-aged students. *Registration required.* Please call 770-683-1347 to register.

 

Thursday

Chef Carlin 10:00-11:00 a.m. Libraries bring the best of the universe to everyone through books, music, films and cooking. Yes, cooking! During this program, participants will use seasonal and delicious ingredients found on Earth to create our “Out of this World Food.” There will be a main dish, side dish, and sweet treat made by the participants. After the hands-on work, we’ll enjoy our tasty creations: Island Chicken, Brazilian Cobb Salad, Fancy Fruit Tarts.  Cooking and using kitchen tools are for children seven years of age and up only! Adult supervision is required. This event is full.

 

 

YA Writing Workshop 2:30-4:00 p.m.  This workshop is perfect for you if: you are just starting out, you have been filling your notebooks for years with stories, poems, or plays, or you are looking for other people who share your love for writing! Each workshop, we will read and discuss published short stories and poems, do fun writing exercises, and talk about craft (the tools and techniques in poetry and fiction).
