This Week at the Carnegie: October 21-25

Fall has arrived! We at the Carnegie are enjoying the cooling temperatures, which are perfect for curling up with a good book! Have you checked out our New Releases section lately? We have some wonderful selections that would go great while snuggling under a blanket with a pumpkin spice latte or apple cider!

 

In addition to our book and DVD collection, we have a week full of programs to help you celebrate the season and to get you moving in this cozy time of year. Program dates, times, and descriptions are below. Our building will be closed on Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., so Exercise is Medicine is cancelled for that day. Please visit http://newnancarnegie.eventbrite.com/ to register for programs in advance. All programs at the Carnegie are open to the public and free of charge. 

 

Monday

 

Exercise is Medicine: 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

EIM is a circuit cardio alternating safe and easy to follow low-impact aerobics with strength conditioning. Elastic tubing with handles is used for resistance training and core strengthening. The Exercise is Medicine (EIM) program includes “move and learn” activity designed to offer those of all ages with chronic diseases the cardio-strength-flexibility and balance training needed to safely improve chronic health condition symptoms. Certified instructors from Piedmont Newnan Wellness Center provide forty-five minutes of gentle therapeutic exercises. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes. All equipment provided.

 

Crochet at the Carnegie: 2:00 p.m. to 4 p.m.

This class is designed for beginners as well as more advanced. If you want to learn the basics and make a lap robe. Bring one crochet hook - size “h” - and one 7 ounce skein of “Red Heart” yarn. This class is for all levels of skill. Instructor, Judy Davenport, teaches the basics and will guide through any trouble spots. For experienced knitters, please bring your current crochet project.

 

 

Tuesday 

 

NCLF Program: Karen White: 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

The Newnan Carnegie Library Foundation presents an author event with Karen White! The eagerly awaited sixth book in the Tradd Street series is almost here! Get the full scoop on the writing of THE CHRISTMAS SPIRITS ON TRADD STREET from Karen at this fun and entertaining book signing event. Enjoy a little holiday magic early this year as the story of Melanie and Jack continues.

Meet and greet starts at 10:00 AM followed by presentation at 10:30 AM. Book Signing to follow! Hope to see you there! Reservations are requested. Coffee will be provided by Leaf & Bean.

 

As the Page Turns: 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. 

The Carnegie Library presents As the Page Turns, our afternoon book club. This month we will be reading Setting Free the Kites by Alex George. Reservations requested.

 

Wednesday

Gentle Yoga 1:30 p.m.— 2:30 p.m.

Please join the Carnegie for Gentle Yoga with Yvette! Instructor, Yvette Monet will guide adults & seniors at all levels of physical ability in stretch & strengthen muscles exercises. Gain flexibility & balance and relieve stress. Please wear comfortable clothes and shoes. All equipment provided or bring your own mat.

 

Writing Workshop with Alex & Angela McRae: 3:00 to 4:45 p.m.  

The Carnegie Library hosts a series of Writing Workshops with authors, Alex & Angela McRae. The workshops will teach the writing process from brainstorming to publishing. These sessions in October will build on each other. Registration is required for this program. This class is a continuing series and is no longer taking reservations. 

 

Book Club with Lola: 3:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Lola, a registered therapy dog, and her handler, Ms. Pam provide a free fifteen minute, private reading exercise for elementary and middle school aged students. Registration is required and can be done by calling 770-683-1347.

 

Thursday 

 

Spooktacular Designs: 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Join The Carnegie Library for a fun filled afternoon of crafting DIY Halloween decorations. We will be making fun and spooky decorations to complement any Halloween decorating including a haunting luminary and a jack-o-lantern table arrangement. Refreshments will be served. All supplies are provided . Space is limited, and registration is required.

 

Friday 

 

Our building will be closed from 11:00 a.m, to 1:30 p.m. There will be no EIM. 

 

American Military History: 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Dr. Walter Todd has a Ph.D. in History but focuses mainly on American Military History. Dr. Todd has been a professor at the University of West Georgia as well as retired from West Georgia Technical College . Dr. Todd enjoys sharing his love for America’s past, present, and future through his teachings. This month he will be covering the Doolittle Raid on Japan which occurred on August 18, 1942. Reservations are requested.
