STORY TIME

Story Time Registration Guidelines

Registration for Storytime is on a first-come basis. Precedence will be given to families registered the previous session. After Storytime is at full capacity, a waiting list will be utilized, also on a first-come basis. Registration will be open for two weeks.  You may register by phone, email, in person, or through Eventbrite.  Parents will be notified by e-mail at least one week prior to the beginning of the session.  All children who registered and did not make it into the program will be put on a waiting list and contacted if a space becomes available.

Please be considerate of other children. Do not register if you cannot regularly attend these programs.

The following rules apply to Storytime registration:

A child must be at least 2 and no older than 5 by the registration date. (Exceptions can be made for special circumstances at the discretion of the Storytime Programmer)

A child may be registered only once per session.

A family who has previously been in a program but did not abide by the attendance policy will only receive a space if there is not a waiting list.

Storytime Program Guidelines

Our primary goal at the Carnegie is to foster a love of books and reading in your child. We appreciate your cooperation, support, and participation!

The Storytime program is geared to the needs and interests of children ages 2-5.

Parents are strongly encouraged to bring only the child(ren) who is/are registered.

Only younger siblings still in an infant seat will be permitted to attend with the registered child. Unless prior arrangements have been made with the programmer.

Parents/Guardians are responsible for all the children that accompany them.

Please be sure your child is emotionally and behaviorally ready to participate in a listening program. This includes being able to sit and listen. If the child becomes too disruptive, the parent and child will be asked to leave the room until the child can sit and listen. Parents are asked to remove disruptive children and return when they are ready. The cooperation of the parent will be appreciated by all.

*Promptness is greatly appreciated. Interruptions by late arrivals interfere with the concentration of the group which is necessary for a successful program. Continual tardiness may mean the loss of the privilege to attend programs.*

Parents are asked to refrain from carrying on conversations with others during Story Time. Such behavior is inconsiderate of other participants and very distracting for the librarian. Cell phones should be silenced or turned off during the program so that your child has your full attention. Parents are expected to participate and show by example how much fun singing, dancing, and being silly can be! Parents will sit with the children on the Story Time rug so they can participate more easily.

Children (and parents) should wear play clothes that are comfortable to move and sit in and can handle a stain or two.  Shoes must always be worn. We do like to make a mess and not be stressed about it!

Snack Notice: Parents will sign up for a snack date. That parent is responsible for providing a snack and juice boxes or water for that date. The Story Time programmer will inform parents at the start of the session how many snacks and juice boxes are needed. Any leftover snack and juice boxes will be put into storage for emergencies such as sickness. Please remember this date! I will send out a reminder the Monday before the assigned Storytime. Please, no red juice. Due to snacks being donated, the Carnegie cannot be responsible for food allergies. If your child is chosen for Storytime and has a known allergy, please take note and provide his/her own snack.

*Attendance Policy: There is a lot of planning and hard work that goes into this program each week. If a family cannot attend a scheduled program, they must e-mail the Children’s Assistant with an acceptable explanation. If a family misses two or more programs in a session without informing the Children’s Assistant then the child is automatically withdrawn from the program and the next child on the waiting list will be contacted.
