Artist Talk: Aimee Miller

Please join us as we welcome Aimee Miller, an Atlanta-based painter and mixed media artist. She received her MFA in Painting from the University of Delaware and BA in Studio Art from Spelman College. She is the recipient of several awards and scholarships which include fellowships for residencies at the Hambidge Center in Rabun Gap, Georgia, Anderson Ranch Art Center in Snowmass Village, Colorado and Vermont Studio Center in Johnson, Vermont. Aimee's work is in both public and private collections that include The Paul R. Jones Collection (University of Delaware), the Georgia Museum of Art (University of Georgia), The Paul R. Jones Collection (University of Alabama), and Wilson College. She is currently an art educator for Fulton County Schools and has served several institutions in the University System of Georgia as a lecturer and part-time instructor of art.

Aimee Miller is continuously inspired by the endless possibilities of surfaces, materials, and their relationship to paint. While she often takes references from nature, structures that exist in both exterior and interior spaces inform my work. As Aimee's practice evolves, she experiments with techniques that reflects her interest in textiles and surface design. Join Aimee as she discuss how it began to influence her relationship with the canvas, not literally at first, but through patterns, textures, and a layered approach to surface. She realized that textiles, like paintings, are built through process: weaving, dyeing, and unraveling which currently mirror my methods of layering paint, manipulating it in dried form, and reworking the surface.

Art Rez Writing Workshop with Carol Mitchell

Please join us and special guest Carol Mitchell, the author of the novel What Start Bad a Mornin’ and of 19 children's books, three published by HarperCollins UK. She is the recipient of several writing fellowships, and her book reviews and short stories have appeared or are forthcoming in a variety of journals. She is an assistant professor at George Mason University in Virginia, teaches in writing workshops in various programs, and is currently working on a novel.

So whether you’re an emerging or experienced writer, this generative workshop will offer you an opportunity to develop a new idea or dig deeper into something you’re already working on. We’ll read and discuss the fundamentals at work in a well-regarded short story. We’ll then respond to prompts, taking inspiration from the reading. We’ll repeat this process with a second, and possibly third reading. If time and interest exist, we'll share and discuss some of the newly-generated work, but the main goal of this course is for you to leave with new work, greater insights into the workings of short fiction, and a new or enhanced sense of connection and commitment to your writing.

**All writers are welcome! Very limited space!!

Books will be available for purchase by Bookmiser. The book talk will be followed by a book signing. Registration is required. This author event is part of the Edgar B. Hollis Distinguished Author Series.

About the Book:

After losing her long-time acting gig on the hit show Murder 101, Sydney Ryan decides she needs a break from Hollywood politics. She heads to Treasure Island, Florida where her grandmother has been visiting and now refuses to leave. Sydney’s plan to lay low for a bit quickly goes awry though, as she is swept up in her grandmother’s now flourishing social life—Grand not only bought a new house in Casas de Flores, she’s also helping her neighbor Myra open a bookstore in Pass-a-Grille. But when someone breaks into Grand’s house repeatedly Sydney realizes her grandmother is keeping something from her.

Determined to ferret out the truth and protect her grandmother, Sydney enlists the help of the Ten Beach Road ladies and Luke, a local police officer who was once her high school crush. While Sydney puts her television crime solving skills to the test, she decides to act on the sizzling chemistry between her and Luke. And as Sydney spends more sunsets toasting to true friends and new romance, she begins to wonder if the sun is setting on her time in Hollywood and if this town could be the dawn of a new chapter.

"[A] sparkling, deeply satisfying tale."—New York Times bestselling author Karen White

"If you're a sucker for plucky women who rise to the occasion, this is for you."
USA Today

"[Wax] writes with breezy wit and keen insight."—The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

"Wax offers her trademark form of fiction, the beach read with substance."—Booklist

About the Author:

Wendy Wax, a former broadcaster, is the USA Today Bestselling author of sixteen novels and two novellas including the popular Ten Beach Road series.

Her novels revolve around journeys of self-discovery and the bonds of friendship that get us through the toughest times.

And while her characters deal with real life issues, Wax, like Mary Poppins, believes that a spoonful of humor helps the harsh realities go down. Booklist refers to her novels, which are intentionally light, as ‘her trademark form of fiction, the beach read with substance.’

After thirty plus years in Atlanta, she once again lives on the water on the west coast of Florida near the home she grew up in and Ten Beach Road’s fictional Bella Flora.

Marie Bostwick: Edgar B. Hollis Distinguished Author Series

The Newnan Carnegie Library Foundation and Carnegie Library are excited to welcome author, Marie Bostwick to the Carnegie. Marie will be discussing her new historical fiction book, The Book Club for Troublesome Women, which is a stirring 60's era novel of women creating community and breaking boundaries

Books will be available for purchase by Bookmiser. The book talk will be followed by a book signing. Registration is required. This author event is part of the Edgar B. Hollis Distinguished Author Series.

About the Book:

Set against the backdrop of the early 1960s, this captivating story follows the journey of four dissatisfied suburban housewives who form an unexpected sisterhood that transforms their lives forever.

The Book Club for Troublesome Women introduces readers to Margaret Ryan, Viv Buschetti, and Bitsy Cobb—three women living in a newly developed "planned community" in Northern Virginia. To the outside world, these women appear to have everything—a stable home, loving families, and a picture-perfect life. Yet beneath the surface, they each grapple with a sense of unease and discontent that they can't quite explain.

Marie Bostwick masterfully captures the essence of an era when women across the country were beginning to question societal norms and seek out their own paths. Her rich character development and keen insight into the human experience make The Book Club for Troublesome Women a must-read for anyone interested in women's history, personal growth, and the enduring power of female friendship.

About the Author:

Marie Bostwick is the New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author of more than twenty works of uplifting contemporary and historical fiction. Translated into a dozen languages, Marie’s novels are beloved by readers across the globe. Her 2009 book, A Thread of Truth, was an “Indie Next Notable” pick. Three of her books were published as Reader's Digest “Select Editions.” Marie lives in Washington state with her husband and a beautiful but moderately spoiled Cavalier King Charles spaniel.
