Volunteer Guidelines

Thank you for volunteering at the Carnegie Library. We consider our volunteers to be a vital asset to the Carnegie and the community.  We ask that you abide by the following guidelines to make this a wonderful experience for all.

Volunteers will check-in with a Sr. Carnegie Assistant or the Carnegie Director at the beginning and end of each shift. Any updates will be communicated at this time and will allow us to keep track of the time volunteered.

Volunteers are welcome to attend programs when not volunteering. However, they are to follow the same processes patrons do during this time. This includes pre-registering for the program and waiting until an instructor or registered volunteer has unlocked the stairs and elevator to go to the program area.

Volunteers are not to enter staff areas of the Carnegie without permission. This includes the back stairwell and behind the desk. This is for your safety.

Many volunteers come into contact with library patrons and may well be the first official contact a patron has with the library. It is important, therefore, that volunteers maintain a professional, friendly demeanor at all times in our effort to provide quality customer service.

Suggestions are welcome. Please understand that staff take into careful consideration the Carnegie's mission, budget, and patron needs when determining policy changes and purchases.

If you feel uncomfortable or would like to make a complaint, please contact the Carnegie Director at scrutchfield@cityofnewnan.org or 770-683-1347.

The Carnegie has the right to make policy changes at any time. Every effort will be made to notify volunteers of these changes as soon as possible.
